Anthropic has signed a Global Premier Partnership with HCLTech, one of the world's largest IT services firms, aimed at pushing enterprise customers from AI experimentation into governed deployments of agentic AI. The announcement, datelined Santa Clara and Noida on October 12, leans on safety, cybersecurity and governance as the partnership's stated focus.
The structure is more concrete than most vendor-SI press releases. HCLTech will establish a dedicated Anthropic Business Unit with a Center of Excellence to build agentic AI solutions, and will provide secure sandbox environments for enterprise deployments of Claude through forward-deployed engineers. The company also commits to helping clients adopt AI-native engineering practices, train their workforces and build the organizational capability to operate agents safely at scale.
HCLSoftware, the group's product arm, becomes an Anthropic ISV partner and will embed Claude capabilities into select enterprise products across cybersecurity, automation, business process applications and application development — naming HCL BigFix, its endpoint management platform, and HCL AppScan, its application security product, while also enabling the Actian AI analyst. Separately, HCLTech will integrate Claude and Claude Code into AI Force, its agentic software engineering platform, for IT support, code remediation and digital employee services, with policy guardrails, exception handling and human oversight for high-impact changes.
"AI can only be as useful as it is trustworthy, and we build Claude to give companies the confidence to bring it into their most sensitive and valuable work," said Daniela Amodei, Anthropic's co-founder and president, pointing to the banking, hospital, telecom and manufacturing systems HCLTech manages. HCLTech CEO C Vijayakumar argued that few companies combine the scale of a global systems integrator with the product depth of an ISV — "a rare advantage to securely engineer and deploy Agentic AI at scale."
The financial backdrop gives the deal its timing. HCLTech reported results the same day: revenue of 35,620 crore rupees for the July-September quarter, up 11.5% year over year, with net profit up 21.2% to 5,132 crore rupees. Its Advanced AI revenue reached $219 million, up from $171 million in the prior quarter. The company has more than 223,000 employees across 60 countries and reported $14.8 billion in consolidated revenue for the twelve months ended June 2026. Neither side disclosed the partnership's financial terms or integration timeline. HCLTech shares closed at 1,223 rupees, up 0.52%.
For Anthropic, the deal extends a forward-deployed-engineer strategy it has been building all quarter. Its Claude Frontier Academy, announced October 2, commits $100 million to train 10,000 Frontier Deployed Engineers by the end of 2027, with first cohorts drawn from Accenture, Bain, Capgemini, Deloitte, McKinsey and others; the company says professionals at 46,000 firms have earned more than 175,000 Claude certifications. An SI that both resells Claude and embeds it into security products is the logical next rung on that ladder.
What to watch is whether the unit produces reference deployments rather than announcements — governed Claude rollouts inside banks, hospitals and telecoms that peers can copy. The enterprise AI market is shifting from pilots to operations, and the vendors that win it will be the ones whose agents can pass an audit. That is a higher bar than a demo, and both companies now have revenue riding on clearing it.
