Meta on Monday released Muse Wonder and Muse Wonder Full, two new AI models that the company says reach the frontier tier of the industry, putting Meta back in the same conversation as OpenAI, Anthropic and Google after a year in which it was widely viewed as a step behind. The models are available to developers immediately through the Meta Model API and Muse Code, and will progressively become the engine behind the Muse personal AI agent.
The announcement lands 14 months after Mark Zuckerberg reorganized the companys AI efforts into Meta Superintelligence Labs, a campaign that included a reported $14 billion investment in Scale AI to bring in co-founder Alexandr Wang as chief AI officer. Zuckerberg framed Muse Wonder as the second model family from the rebuilt team, a major step up from Muse Spark, and called it a step toward delivering personal super intelligence to everyone.
According to Meta, Muse Wonder is tuned for fast frontier performance while Muse Wonder Full is the complete version, and both apply specialized knowledge to practical problems: understanding a lease, making sense of financial or health information, or handling law and finance tasks. The company says that in its own evaluations the models are competitive with Anthropic Fable 5.1, OpenAI GPT-6 Astra and Google Gemini 4 Argon on certain benchmarks. Those comparisons are self-reported by Meta and have not been independently verified.
Two capabilities anchor the launch. Active Memory lets the model carry relevant information across conversations so users do not restart from zero each time, and Active Focus keeps the model working through errors and roadblocks on long tasks, asking the user for clarification or permission when needed. Meta also says the models ship with its strongest safeguards yet against cyber misuse, a nod to the growing scrutiny of agentic systems that can act on live websites.
The commercial play is subscription revenue. Users of the Muse agent will need a $20 or $100 per month plan to access the new models inside the assistant, an attempt to build an income stream beyond advertising. The timing is pointed: The Information recently reported that Muse has more than 3 million weekly users and over 1 million daily users, and Meta shares rose about 4 percent on Monday to around $749, ending a four-session losing streak ahead of third-quarter earnings expected October 28.
What Meta still has to prove is external. Independent benchmark coverage of Muse Wonder was not available at launch, and the companys own history with frontier claims, including the Muse Spark mathematics papers earlier this month, shows that verification moves slower than announcements. But the strategic signal is unambiguous: after spending tens of billions on talent and compute, Meta is now selling its own frontier models by subscription rather than licensing a gap-filler, and the industry has a genuine fourth contender for the top of the leaderboard.
