Meta's new AI assistant Muse may be the company's next breakout consumer app. Fresh estimates from market intelligence firm Apptopia show Muse being downloaded more often in its first 12 days than ChatGPT was in the equivalent window after its mobile debut, along with higher daily active user counts.
Because the two apps launched under different conditions, Apptopia narrowed the comparison to make it fair. ChatGPT's mobile launch was global but iOS-only, while Muse arrived on both the App Store and Google Play but only in the US and Canada. Restricting the data to US and Canadian iOS downloads, Muse recorded 1.8 million installs in its first 12 days against ChatGPT's 1.3 million. Globally, Muse has now passed 2.8 million total installs.
Engagement tells a similar story. Muse drew 642,000 daily active users in the US during the period, versus 231,000 for ChatGPT at the same stage. Even when the comparison is limited to iOS alone, Muse still leads with 359,000 daily users.
The app's momentum has not slowed. After debuting at number two on the US App Store, Muse climbed to the top spot, overtaking ChatGPT, according to Appfigures data reported by Business Insider. That firm separately counted Muse crossing one million downloads shortly after launch.
Apptopia's figures are third-party estimates rather than Meta's internal numbers, but the trajectory fits Meta's proven playbook. The company drove Threads past 500 million users largely through promotion inside Instagram and Facebook, and Muse is wired into both platforms plus WhatsApp, giving it several powerful distribution channels. Apptopia's overlap data shows more than 95 percent of Muse users are also on Facebook, and 63 percent use Instagram.
Meta has not yet published official adoption figures for Muse, but the early data suggests its cross-promotion engine has plenty of runway left before the app's growth even begins to plateau.
