Answer engines are strongest when you treat them as a research assistant that shows its sources rather than as an oracle.
Decompose before asking
A broad question produces a broad answer that cites broad sources. Break it into verifiable sub-questions: what the number is, where it comes from, how it was measured, and what contradicts it.
Restrict the source type
Filter to academic sources when you need methodology, to forums when you need practical experience, and to news when you need recency. Letting the engine choose freely tends to surface listicles and marketing pages.
Follow the citations
Open at least one source per factual claim. This is not distrust — it is the reason to use a cited tool at all. Where a claim appears without a source, treat it as unverified.
Keep the trail
Collect the queries and sources in a document as you go. Research that cannot be reconstructed is research you will pay for twice.
Know the boundary
Answer engines are poor at original analysis. They summarise what exists. The judgement about what it means is still yours.
