Apple released iOS and iPadOS 27.2 on October 26, four weeks after the previous point release, and the update is heavily weighted toward Siri AI. The headline change is conversational memory: Siri can now recall what it told you in earlier sessions, so a follow-up like "which restaurants did you recommend last week?" works without restating the request.
The assistant also draws on a wider set of personal context when answering. Release notes list photos attached in Messages, calendar event attendees and voicemails as new sources, alongside improved retrieval from Safari history and the Reading List. Siri responses now support granular text selection, so users can copy just part of an answer.
The privacy counterpart is a redesigned Excluded Apps setting that consolidates, in one place, which applications Siri, Search and system suggestions can access. It is the most visible control Apple has offered for the rebuilt assistant, which pulls personal data from messages, email and photos to answer questions about the user's own life.
Language support expanded from English-only at Siri AI's launch last month to six languages. French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish are live now, with Apple saying more are coming before the end of 2026 — Traditional Chinese, Norwegian, Turkish and Vietnamese are next on its published list. Siri AI remains unavailable in EU countries and mainland China, where Apple says it is working with regulators on a path forward. The feature requires an iPhone 16 model or later, or an iPhone 15 Pro, and is still labeled beta.
Beyond Siri, iOS 27.2 adds context-aware Suggestions in Messages — turning a dinner invitation into a calendar event, for example — and SynthID watermark detection in Photos and Image Playground, which flags images generated or modified with AI tools. Shared albums gain caption editing and duplicate protection, FaceTime supports third-party sign-language interpreters and live captioners, the Apple TV app adds simple household profiles, and Apple Music adopts a black-and-white brand identity that retires its long-standing red icon. macOS Golden Gate 27.2 brings the same Siri memory and language updates to the Mac.
The pace is the message: Apple shipped five additional languages within weeks of launch, a clear effort to close the gap with assistants from OpenAI, Google and Anthropic that already operate in dozens of languages. The exclusion of two large markets — the EU and mainland China — remains the biggest constraint on how far that catch-up can actually reach.
