TSMC Books $16.03 Billion for September, Up 54.6% Year Over Year, as Third-Quarter Revenue Hits a Record $46.7 Billion

TSMC's September sales came in at NT$511.86 billion ($16.03 billion), up 54.6% year over year and 0.6% below August's record. Third-quarter revenue reached NT$1.49 trillion, or about $46.7 billion, beating the company's own $44.6-45.8 billion guidance. Full results and a fourth-quarter outlook are due October 15.

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company extended its historic revenue run on Thursday, reporting September net sales of NT$511.86 billion, roughly $16.03 billion at current exchange rates. That is 54.6% above the same month last year, and just 0.6% below August, which at NT$514.81 billion remains the strongest single month in the company's history.

The September figure pushed third-quarter revenue to NT$1,494.24 billion, about $46.7 billion, a quarterly record that represents 17.62% sequential growth and roughly 50% year-over-year growth. It also lands above the guidance TSMC gave investors in July, when it projected $44.6 billion to $45.8 billion for the quarter assuming an exchange rate of NT$32 to the dollar.

Cumulatively, the first nine months of 2026 brought in NT$3,898.73 billion, up 41.1% from a year earlier. The company attributed the acceleration to strong demand for AI silicon combined with smartphone stocking ahead of new device launches, a mix that has made TSMC the primary beneficiary of the infrastructure buildout on both the accelerator and the handset side.

TSMC manufactures chips for Nvidia and Apple, among others, and its September disclosures underlined how far ahead it is planning: during the month it committed to adopting ASML's High-NA extreme ultraviolet lithography systems, becoming, alongside Samsung, one of the first customers for the tooling that will define the next node transition. The company's market capitalization now sits near $2.1 trillion, the largest in Asia.

Investors reacted mildly to the print. TSMC shares closed 1.35% lower in Taipei ahead of the announcement, in line with a 1% slide in the weighted index, suggesting the monthly numbers were largely priced in after a year in which the stock has gained more than 64%.

The fuller picture arrives on October 15, when TSMC holds its online earnings call and is expected to detail fourth-quarter guidance. Analysts cited in Taiwanese coverage expect third-quarter net profit of about NT$740.8 billion, up 64% year over year, and anticipate a stronger fourth quarter as Nvidia's Vera Rubin platform ramps and 2-nanometer demand builds.

Thursday also brought Samsung's preliminary third-quarter guidance, which projected operating profit of 107.4 trillion won, up nearly eightfold, on the same AI-driven memory strength. Taken together, the two results describe a supply chain where AI demand is no longer a forecast but an invoiced reality, and where the constraint is shifting from orders to capacity.
