xAI launched Team Bots on September 28, putting shared Grok agents into public beta on its Teams and Enterprise plans. Instead of one person using one bot, a Team Bot is built around a role or workflow, given the files, tools and know-how that role needs, then shared so an entire team works from the same context.
Each bot assembles four ingredients. Context covers files, instructions and skills such as brand guides or internal documentation. Plugins connect applications — Salesforce, Notion and GitHub are the launch examples — wired up either per person or for the whole team. Credentials let the bot securely reach third-party APIs that lack a plugin. Memories let it improve at the role over time.
The privacy model is the distinguishing design choice. The bot is shared, but conversations are not: each person's context and memories stay private while the skills remain common across the team. Every Team Bot also gets its own Slack handle and can be invited into a channel, where it behaves less like software and more like a colleague with a named account.
xAI's internal examples come with a familiar caveat — they are company-reported and have not been independently verified. An engineering bot connected to Notion, Linear, Hex, Datadog and Cursor triages bugs, creates tickets and launches Cloud Agents for well-defined fixes; xAI says that bot, which was used to build Team Bots itself, helped a five-person team ship more than 100 pull requests a day. A marketing bot checks drafts against brand guidelines in Slack and carries website changes through to preview links. A data bot queries approved Databricks tables with shared read-only credentials, drawing on a skills library the analytics team spent two years building across more than 45,000 tables.
Two customers were quoted in the launch material. Dakotah Rice, CEO of small-business insurer Harper, said his firm built a Team Bot in 24 hours to find lapsed policies and help customers reinstate coverage — work that previously meant manually checking every customer across three platforms — and that it has saved customers more than $120,000 across hundreds of policies. Amplitude's head of marketing, Angela Ferrante, said the company is building toward Team Bots for every marketing function. Neither claim has been independently verified.
xAI is offering prebuilt Team Bots for sales, product management, marketing and data analytics as starting points, and existing single-user Grok Bots can be shared with a team. No separate pricing was disclosed; the feature rides on the existing Teams and Enterprise tiers.
The launch lands in an increasingly crowded lane. Meta's Muse is courting enterprises through the new Meta Enterprise Platform, OpenAI is expected to push persistent agents at this week's DevDay, and Anthropic's Managed Agents API already runs in production at Notion, Rakuten and Asana. Team Bots is a narrower swing — not a platform, but a shared role-player with just enough memory and permissions to do one job well. If it works, the unit of enterprise AI adoption stops being the seat and becomes the role.
