Meta Buys Conductor, the Startup Whose App Runs Multiple AI Coding Agents in Parallel

Meta has acquired Conductor, the startup behind an app that lets developers run and monitor several AI coding agents at the same time. CEO Charlie Holtz says his team is joining Meta Superintelligence Labs. Terms were not disclosed, but the deal lands as OpenAI, Anthropic and Cursor race to own the agentic coding workflow.

Meta has quietly picked up one of the most beloved tools in the developer AI scene. Axios reported on November 4 that Meta has acquired Conductor, the startup behind a desktop app that lets engineers run multiple AI coding agents in parallel and keep an eye on all of them from a single dashboard. Financial terms were not disclosed, and the acquisition appears to be a talent-and-product pickup rather than a mega-deal.

Conductor sits at the busy intersection of two trends that have defined 2026: coding has become the first consumer-scale workload for large language models, and individual developers now routinely run several agents at once — one refactoring a module, another writing tests, a third triaging bugs. Conductor's app wraps that chaos into one workflow, giving each agent its own isolated workspace and letting a single engineer supervise a small fleet of assistants the way a manager supervises a team.

Conductor CEO Charlie Holtz confirmed the deal and said his team will join Meta Superintelligence Labs, the division Mark Zuckerberg created to centralize the company's frontier model and agent work after the company spent billions recruiting researchers from OpenAI and other labs. Meta confirmed the acquisition but did not share the size of the transaction.

The timing is not a coincidence. One day earlier, OpenAI bought Pierre Computer, a developer-tools startup whose Code Storage service will be folded directly into Codex as Meta's rival builds out its own end-to-end coding stack. Anthropic's Claude Code, GitHub Copilot and the $29.5 billion sensation Cursor are all fighting over the same workflow, and every major lab now treats the "agent orchestration" layer — the software that supervises, schedules and reviews other agents — as strategic ground.

For Meta, the hole has been obvious. The company has a huge consumer agent push with its Muse assistant, but its presence in professional developer tooling has been thin. Folding in a small team that has already earned a cult following among engineers gives Meta Superintelligence Labs both hands-on product taste and credibility in a category it has struggled to enter organically.

The acquisition also signals how the AI land grab has shifted from models to harnesses. The models are converging in capability, but the tooling that turns a raw model into a productive co-worker is still wide open. Whoever owns the layer where developers actually spend their day controls where the next subscription dollar goes — and Meta has decided it no longer wants to watch that layer from the outside.
